Who wants to be part of the cool crowd when you could spend your time with these
geeked out beauties.
1. Felicia Day
Ever since getting her big break on the TV smash hit "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fiery redhead Felicia Day has captured the hearts of many geeks by wearing her gaming love on her sleeve. Day created, wrote and starred in "the Guild," a web series that explores the subcultures surrounding running online multiplayer gaming, and more recently starred in a web mini-series based on the "Dragon Age" video games. She has remained under the nerd radar thanks to her roles in cult sci-fi faves "Eureka" and "Supernatural" and the Joss Whedon quirky Internet musical, "Dr. Horrible's sing-along blog".
2. April O'Neil
Stereotypical perceptions of nerds would hold that they are far more likely to be behind the camera of porn shoot rather than in front of it. April O'Neil, then, is the exception to the rule as a sultry porn star who also happens to be a self-professed nerd. For one thing, her porn name is obviously adopted from one of the primary characters in the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle" series. But even beyond the TMNT love, she has demonstrated her "Doctor Who" fandom through her ownership of the Dalek bath toy and admitted during a Reddit AMA that one of her favorite career moment was working on an XXX Star Trek parody.
3. Rosario Dawson
The sex appeal of Rosario Dawson cannot be questioned, as evidenced by her seductive roles in the "Sin City" movies. But her nerd appeal? Well, few other stunning, A-list actresses can speak Klingon and even fewer can rightly claim to have created their own comic book series. The creator of "Occult Crimes Task Force" showed her true nerd colors when she went on Conan O'Brien's talk show to showcase her fluent Klingon as a part of her unabashed Star Trek love. To put her over the top, she also voiced Artemis in the animated "Wonder Woman" series.
4. Danica McKellar
Remember that geek from math class who sat in the front row and eagerly raised his hand to solve every quotation? He probably isn't the hapless dweeb that you recall, just like Danica McKellar isn't the awkward loner you might remember from when she portrayed Winnie Cooper on the 90's TV show "The Wonder Years." What do that Math geek and now gorgeous McKellar have in common? Their love of math, which is served as the basis for the actress' two published books. The brilliant and beautiful McKellar once studied math at UCLA, even having a theorem named after her and now serves as an education advocate for young girls.
5. Kristen Bell
When it comes to earning nerd cred, "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" stars Kristen Bell could have easily said "I'm Veronica Mars," drop the mic and been done with it. The blonde bombshell boasts countless screen credits, but her adoring nerd fan base always seems to bring things back to Veronica Mars, the long-defunct to show that Bell herself, has tried to resurrect as a movie. But even that isn't enough for an avowed gamer who has also voiced a character in the wildly popular "Assassin's Creed" video game series.
6. Mayim Bialik
Mayim Bialik is a dork and she plays one on TV. The Emmy-nominated actress behind The Big Bang Theory's is Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler got a Ph.D. in neuroscience from UCLA after already turning down both Harvard and Yale. Bialik, who first rose to fame as the titular character on the 90's sitcom "Blossom", is also a published author having written a book which outlines her support of the controversial attachment parenting theory. She recently launched a lifestyle website known as "GrokNation" named in tribute to the classic 1961 sci-fi novel, "Stranger in a strange land."
7. Kari Byron
You know that cute, spunky and knowledgeable redhead who serves as the only female as part of the guy-dominated team on Discovery Channel's "Mythbusters?" Science geeks are certainly familiar with Kari Byron, who joined the show in 2004 and went on to be a fixture on the series through to season 12. Showcasing her far-ranging passion for science, Byron also hosts the science teen education program "Head Rush" on the Science Channel and the explosive, informative "Large, Dangerous Rocket Ships".
8. Asia Tyler
By the time Asia Tyler made her way onto the set of hit CBS procedural "Criminal Minds" as FBI agent Dr. Terry Lewis, she was firmly entrenched in the hearts of many geeks who already knew that she was the real deal. Tyler's nerd bona fides came from her voice role as sexy secret agent Lana on "Archer" and her voice works for the "Halo" video game series. The gamer work was a dream job for an outspoken video game addict who after receiving criticism on chat forums after being tabbed to host the 2012 Ubisoft Conference responded with a Facebook-posted on Smackdown that included the slam "I've been a gamer since before you could read."
9. Rashida Jones
The Harvard grad and daughter of music legend Quincy Jones took her family business in a decidedly different direction, becoming not only a successful comic actor on shows like "The Office" and "Parks & Rec" but also a comic book author and lover of all things geek culture. The creator of "Frenemy of the State" comic book series often drops little easter egg nerd references into her roles, none more notable than having her character on the office boast the "Call of Duty" screen name, "KarenTheJimSlayer".
10. Alyson Hannigan
We've seen Alyson Hannigan rise to fame on the big and small screens thanks to roles in the smash hit "American Pie" and hit sitcom "How I Met Your Mother." However, for many nerds, it was her role as Willow Rosenberg on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" that brought about weak knees and fluttering hearts. So much so, in fact, that it's kinda hard to separate the computer-savvy, socially awkward Willow from the actress, herself. It surely hasn't hurt Hannigan's nerdy sex symbol image that "American Pie" saw her portray band geek Michelle Flaherty and "How I Met Your Mother" featured her as part of the quirky couple alongside fellow nerd fave, Jason Segel.
