No 1: What is Coca-Cola?

Coke is actually much more than just a fizzy carbonated drink. Coke is a multi-billion dollar company and most definitely a household name. In fact, studies have shown that Coca-Cola is the most widely understood term in the world after the word 'Okay.' The company sells a multitude of products including over 1000 different juice drinks like Fruitopia, Simply, Minute Maid, and Hi-C. According to Forbes, Coca-Cola is the world's fourth most valuable brand with only technology powerhouses Apple, Google, Microsoft ahead of it.

No 2: So who created Coca-Cola?

Source
The man who invented Coca-Cola was a Confederate army colonel and medical doctor named John Pemberton. He came up with the drink after being addicted to the morphine that he was given to help with his wound that he received in the civil war. Believe it or not, the drink was originally compromised of alcohol, cocaine from the coca leaf and caffeine from the cola nuts. Originally Coke was marketed as a solution to low sex drive with Pemberton claiming that it was a brain tonic that also cured headaches, decreased anxiety, and depression and even helped with indigestion. Basically like selling snake oil this cures everything. Today, Coke is owned by the Coca-Cola company which obviously don't make the same claims but are selling so many products that they need well over 300,000 tons of aluminum every year just to satisfy the demand for cans of it in the US alone.

No 3: Where is Coca-Cola consumed?

Coca-Cola is literally consumed everywhere. Not only does the Coca-Cola company own an ever growing number of beverage companies worldwide, but the flagship red and white labeled cola is recognized by approximately 94% of the earth's population. Worldwide over 1.7 billion Coke products are consumed daily. Meaning that 3.1% of all beverages the inhabitants of our planet drink are made by Coca-Cola. Of the 33 beverage brands that generate more than one billion dollars annually, Coke owns 15 of them. This company is absolutely massive. In the United States, Coca-Cola, and Pepsi have been fighting for control of the market for over 100 years with Coke keeping a decent lead with 42.8% of the market compared to Pepsi's approximately 31.1%.

No 4: When did Coke change?

Source
After its creation in 1885, John Pemberton began advertising his beverage as Pemberton's French Wine Coca. And like I said, sold it as a nerve tonic mixing up the recipe when prohibition hit Atlanta in 1886. Now non-alcoholic Pemberton continued his marketing of the product, calling it invigorating, exciting, and pure joy, still making claims that it could fix low sex drive, and had amazing health benefits. Fast forward through about a 100 years and not only has the recipe changed but a slew of new Coca-Cola products had become available. In fact today Coke makes over 3500 different beverages. Fun fact; if you think about how much Apple and Microsoft spend on advertising combine the two, and you are still not even close to the amount that Coke spends.

No 5: Why is Coca-Cola so huge?

Just think. What if you mixed a bunch of stuff together in your fridge that led to a concoction that later led to a 74 billion dollar company that acquired a huge percentage of the world's beverage making industry? That's exactly where the company started, and it's been a pretty amazing journey ever since. To look at it from a different perspective, Coca-Cola could be technically the 84th largest economy in the world beating most countries including Costa Rica. According to research, Coke's brand is worth more than Budweiser, Pepsi, Starbucks, and Redbull combined. Plus the company makes so many different drinks, if you consumed a different one every day, it would take you nine years to try them all. Coke is an incredibly successful company. It is pretty amazing.
