Many years ago, most people likely had a hard time imagining anyone making millions from posting videos of themselves online. Fast forward to today and there are countless online personalities who make hundreds of thousands and even millions of dollars every year from posting
videos on YouTube. Musical and comedy acts, variety shows and video game commentary all rack up millions of subscribers, and advertisers want a piece of the action. As you will see, some bloggers end up making an incredible amount of money.
1. Rosanna Pansino
In 2011 while trying to figure out what to do with her life, Rosanna Pansino posted a YouTube video of herself making a Super Mario themed cake. The video took off, and a string of related desert-making videos followed. Five years later and Pansino is YouTube's most beloved Baker. With over 6 million subscribers and the annual income of $2,5 million. We're sure there's a joke in there somewhere about having your cake and eating it too.
2. Roman Atwood
Youtube is full of pranksters looking to be the next jackass, but there's only one Roman Atwood. Over the last few years, the 33-year-old has built up a subscriber base of nearly 9 million who love watching him push the limits on what's funny and appropriate. For pretending to kill his own son twice to filling up his house with plastic balls, we do feel sorry for his live-in girlfriend, but not too sorry that He would have movie and car deals and an income that to be $2,5 half million.
3. Lilly Singh
With nearly 9 million subscribers, a world tour and endless comedic videos from girls on their periods to imitating her Sikh parents reacting to various things, Lilly Singh is one of the heavy-hitters in the YouTube world. According to Forbes, this Canadian talent makes $2,5 million a year. In 2010, Singh thought she was going to follow a career path in counseling. When he found that it wasn't for her, she started posting videos online at that really connected with an audience.
4. Michelle Phan
It all started with the makeup tutorial video and ballooned into $3 million income. That one video got Michelle Phan 40,000 views in just a few weeks peanuts compared to the 8,5 million subscribers she has today. Videos teaching people how to apply makeup to look like celebrities, how to deal with acne and how to use various facial products are all in Phan Arsenal. All of this online success has led to other breakthroughs including a makeup line and even a book deal.
5. KSI
Olajide Olatunji is someone who's made the dream of getting to play video games a reality. Better known as KSI, this 23-year-old made his mark by posting videos of himself playing and commentating video games - most notably the FIFA soccer games. His nearly 13 million subscribers quickly learn to keep the volume down to prevent ear damage as KSI is notorious for over-the-top reactions to gameplay. Or, maybe it's his $4,5 million income that has him so pumped.
6. Rhett and Link
When you and a friend both have engineering degrees, what's the logical career path? Well, Youtube vloggers of course! Their comedic and bizarre youtube videos have attracted over 4 million subscribers while their mock-morning show, good mythical morning, has over 10 million more. The adult swim style of comedy, song and video has also attracted some sponsorship which enables these two to bring in $4,5 million a year.
7. Lindsey Stirling
There's a lot of people on YouTube trying to make it big by playing instruments or dancing. Lindsey Stirling has done it by doing both. The highest-earning female youtube stars, Stirling has had some massive hits playing with the likes of Pentatonix and even John Legend. Two very successful albums, over 8 million subscribers, and a book deal are just some of the reasons why this 29-year-old took home $6 million last year.
8. Fine Brothers
If you've ever seen a video of kids, teens, or parents reacting to something odds are you were watching a Fine Brothers video. Usually, it's a video of someone watching and reacting to a racy or over-the-top video and people love watching these reactions. Benny and Rafi Fine clearly struck gold with this idea as their YouTube channel has over 14 million subscribers allowing the duo to rake in their $8,5 million income.
9. Smosh
What happens when two friends decide to build a YouTube comedy enterprise based on live action Pokemon based skits? You get Smosh. Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla now runs several Smosh channels on youtube covering everything from hilarious comedy sketches to the video game based music videos. If it sounds random, it is. That said, people love it, and the duo have over 22 million subscribers, a movie, and an income of $8,5 million.
10. PewDiePie
With an annual income rivaling that of Kristen Stewart and Anne Hathaway, you could say this Youtube vlogger is pretty big. With over $44 million subscribers and an annual income of $12 million, Felix Kjellberg is in a league of his own. How'd He do it? Posting videos of himself were commentating while playing video games. His hilarious, sometimes insane and expletive-filled rants proved popular with viewers, and advertisers have been quick to move in on the fame. He's been on late night talk shows, appeared on South Park it even has a parody self-help book to boot.
